The Network Marketing Industry is a might fine industry, but where it falters is in the second word in the phrase network (MARKETING). You see, most companies would have you buy their tools and run around promoting their products. The problem with that is… it doesn’t build the brand of YOU! That’s a huge problem because if you can not show to your prospects that YOU OFFER GREAT VALUE, then they see you much like the Domino’s Pizza phone order guy. Quite simply… YOU DON’T MATTER!

1. You sold them a floundering business. Face it, if you are out in the field selling people a business or product today, you only prove one thing, you are a salesman. The problem here, is that you have been told to sell products or opportunities and not promote (or brand) yourself as a leader. Most Network Marketing companies fail in teaching you to sell yourself. Your prospects are always asking why they should join you. What is in it for them and what can you help them achieve. Answer those questions in the sell of yourself and you both win or you are just like everyone else. When you are sought after for your specific “brand”, it virtually puts you in the position of authority allowing the sale to happen without any pushing or convincing.
2. Others sell the how to. Have you ever noticed that you almost always buy when you have a problem? If you have a problem with your car, then you are in the mood to buy (yes even when you can not afford it). The same thing is true about your team if you are not providing what they desire. You are their leader and if you can not provide people what they desire, they will continue to look even without you. I know I have done this myself. Saying like “fake it till you make it” proves to be more destructive than beneficial. You must know how to and then teach that how to method to your team. People need to be shown the path and instructed every step of the way. This is what will help you become that authority figure everyone is looking for AKA: “The Leader”.
If your primary method of attracting prospects is using tools, then all you are really offering is part of the solution. This proves to be fatal when what people are really looking for are the specific blueprints. Most often people will go out of their way to find and purchase those blueprints and this causes two major problems for you.
It makes someone else look like the leader they should follow and it also provides that new leader with potential income. Your team now views the other leader as more valuable than you and may conceptualize teaming up with them instead of you. That means join their company or opportunity. Either way you look at it, both are destructive to you and your business. This is why you need to actually take the steps to learn the skills needed and that are often being requested by your team. If your team has been assembled because of something you were offering in your leadership, then provide it. You can not fake it here and if you try (remember people are smart) they will be able to sniff you out and make a decision to find their answers elsewhere. You need to sell yourself as the leader and provide the how to your team.
