If you want to own a successful home business that generates a generous residual and passive income, first you must build it. The essential tools you will require for this is a personal computer, wireless phone or a land line, a high speed internet connection (DSL or Cable Modem), a few dollars (not allot) that you are willing to invest in small supplements until your business pays for itself, the willingness to work hard that few extra hours a week, a sustainable positive attitude, the patience to see your mission through until it is complete and a good network marketing home business opportunity. Being in the recruiting industry, you will find that it is affected directly by the economy. When companies are laying off, they are not obviously hiring. So there is no need for Recruiting professionals. When I was laid off in December 2008, it was difficult. For 6 months, I sent out resume after resume, with hopes of finding employment. I was not getting any calls. I wondered how long I could last financially. Well, I became lucky and found employment, but I vowed I would not go through this financial hardship again; I needed another means to produce an income during bad times. I was introduced to a health and wellness opportunity and wondered if it was right for me. Was this another MLM scam or was there clear opportunity there? Here’s what I came up with. Let’s start with the health and wellness aspect of the business first.
The health and wellness industry is a 1 trillion dollar industry! Yes, as Americans we spend more than $70 billion on vitamins and food supplements (a major product line of the health and wellness company, I am involved in), Americans spend over $24 billion annually in fitness clubs, and $12 billion dollars on personal trainers, personal trainers! Only rich people or famous people would use personal trainers. Not anymore. Americans want to look better, feel better, and live longer than ever before. I noticed it. I belong to a health club in the area. I call it exclusive because of the monthly membership fee is not cheap. Now there are derivatives of this fitness club that offer a cheaper monthly fee because someone seen the need of Americans wanting to exercise. Even the cast of Jersey Shore, make it a point to hit the gym to stay in shape! This trend was never seen in the past. The health and wellness company that I am involved in, has had over $800,000 in annual sales. I am sure this could surely not be a MLM scam. I believe Americans are smarter than that and a company could NEVER have such an increase in sales if products were poor or people were not happy with their personal bottom line. American would have spoken out long before the company hit this type of sale revenue.
Now to the MLM aspect, is it a MLM scam or not? First, I have not spent any extra money towards my business that I personally did not want to spend. I spent some money on my own business logo, a network event that charged to get in, and some business cards. This was my choice. I truly believe I did not have to do this to be successful with this business. The products that I use from the company are products that I use every day but I just simply switch to their brands. The prices are comparable, some slightly more but I am getting a better product that are safer for me and my home. This was my obligation and a small yearly fee that is less than my Sam’s Club membership.
The products are not like a clothes trend that are hot for a year then are out of style the next. Nope, these products are more like a black tailored suite, a classic. Products are used all the time and every day for years to come. You will always use glass cleaner, you will always use shampoo, and you will always use soap, items like that are part of this company.
The research and development team at this company are highly educated professionals (hold PHD) they guarantee the information provided about the products is authentic and well thought through. No celebrity endorsements are involved.
There is no holding anybody back. It is encouraged to produce leaders within your organization. You can even surpass the person that enrolled you! And customers stay with the company for many years because you are not using a product for a few months, the products will be used throughout your lifetime. This means, if you are building your business, it will grow without you having to constantly replace your customers.
I am using my current knowledge to grow my business. I am not taking any special classes. I just need my time, to read about the products we offer and time to talk to people to tell them about the products. It’s me marketing the membership, nobody else.
So in summary, I am working with a health and wellness company that offers me a product line that is helping me better my health and my financial position in life. Is this a MLM scam? I will say, certainly not.

I wanted to take a look at what this guy was doing after I found out about the NSA network marketing opportunity. I have seen this product in doctor’s office’s many times, but never knew it was associated with network marketing at all. It looked like an awesome product and had really gained some popularity in the doctor’s offices.

It Still Sounds Like a Pyramid Scheme!

My Job sucks!

“It sounds like a pyramid Scheme,” has been a phrase I have heard untold numbers of times over my 30 year career. There are a number of ways to handle this “objection” and they all work to bring someone’s cognizance to a level of understanding that network marketing is not a pyramid scheme, but their job is!

HOWEVER, this little cartoon really hits it on the head! I laughed so much tears were streaming down my cheeks. (see the video on my blog!)

It was amazing to me when I heard, “I have decided that my job sucks…….” because I could relate to that, even though I am a Pharmacist and was working for a nationally known chain, actually managing two of their stores. I had two small children and was working 72 hours a week being paid for 44 hours!

How many of you have a similar story to tell?

Thankfully I did not listen to any of those around me when they said to me, “It sounds like a pyramid scheme.” Instead I simply asked each and every one of them “Tell me what a pyramid scheme is” and NONE of them had the slightest idea what that phrase meant!

Invariably they told me “a friend, a brother, a sister, etc. yada yada yada” had warned them away from “pyramid schemes” so they just took up the mantra!

Man! Was I skeptical of their powers of deduction, reasoning, discernment (whispering in an aside..should I say Intelligence!) when they told me they had just blindly followed those suggestions and not gotten involved in a “pyramid scheme” not realizing they were involved in one or more all the time!

TIP: When someone says to you, “It sounds like a pyramid scheme to me” do one of the following or several, if you are so inclined.
Reply to them, “Oh, seriously? Tell me, What is a pyramid scheme” and let them tell you.

or, “Really, …..well, is that a bad thing?” You will certainly gain insight into how they look at networking from their answer.

or, “Oh, ….well….if it was would that be a good thing or a bad thing?” Again you will gain insight and be able to move to the next level of enlightment.

Now if their answer is, “No, not a bad thing” (meaning they like network marketing but just do not have the vocabulary to accurately describe it) then you reply with…

“Great! you’re gonna love this” and STOP explaining anything right then, just go on with your demonstration, delivery of a DVD or website or whatever tool you want.

If their answer is, “Yes, it is a bad thing!” then you reply with…,

“Great, you’re gonna love this!” and STOP explaining anything right then, just go on with your demonstration, delivery of a DVD or website or whatever tool you want.

This is my all time favorite though, whenever I am confronted with the question either implied or direct, “Is this a pyramid? Or It sounds like a pyramid scheme” I simply say,..

“Gosh NO!, Pyramids are illegal, you go to jail!” And then I keep going with my demonstration, delivery of a DVD or website or whatever tool I want!

This is so cool! and literally stops the objection immediately.

Does everyone have to be famous with 1000+ names list or completely understand and be able to use sophisticated attraction marketing systems in order to become successful in network marketing? Obviously this could help with your success, but what are the most important things that an average person can do? The most critical aspect is a system or approach that is consistent and workable.

Having a system is valuable so when someone new joins your team, you can plug them into a consistent training method that helps them to get with tools and strategies that are proven to work and are duplicatable. If you don’t have such a system, then you face a significant challenge unless you can find a mentor or a leader that has a system you can take advantage of.

Once your new associates complete start-up training you can customize an approach they should be taking according to their skill-set, interests, and goals. Certain technical types, may be interested in attraction marketing for lead generation, whereas more sociable types may excel using social networking and offline marketing techniques.

Another important consideration to increase duplication on your team is using experts to close after you’ve presented your business or products. An expert or third party who is in your business may have similar background and already achieved significant success or have significant credentials in the field.

It is vital to “build-up” the expert during your introduction vs. highlighting your prospect’s standing. This is important in order that their information is viewed as highly valuable and/or coming from someone who is already successful and can help the prospect get what he wants. It is also important give complete control to the expert without any interruption. Bite your tongue, even if they say something obviously incorrect. The prospect must regard this persons as someone already having the answers that personally need vs. just a peer.

You must have a duplicatable approach and system, especially when using attraction marketing. Don’t expect to recruit on 100% autopilot, but it does require consistency using only the most effective approaches. Testing and tweaking your “system” are considered a normal part of the process, as the industry is in constant flux and most companies are continuously changing/improving their products and services.

I took up the habit of reading the Bible after being reminded time and again, by my mentors, Napoleon Hill, Jim Rohn and Norman Vincent Peale. It is said that the Bible is a library in itself, a fact that I did not believe at first. However, as I started going through what was mentioned, things started to get clearer and clearer. Many puzzles in my life started getting solved, I came to understand the reason why certain things happen and how, etc. It turned out to be a revelation. Before I go ahead, I would like to make it very clear that there are no religious connotations to this article whatsoever. It’s just age-old wisdom applied in practice.

Today, I would like to share with you a wonderful parable and how it totally applies to home business as a whole.

For the readers who are unaware, the parable of the sower goes like this: “The sower went out to sow. As he sowed, some of the seeds fell along the path and the birds came and ate it up. Some of the seeds fell on rocky ground where it had little soil, it sprang up immediately because it had no depth; but when the sun rose and burned it, it withered because it had no roots, other seeds fell among thorn bushes and the thorns grew and choked it, so it didn’t produce any grain. But some seeds fell on good soil and grew and increased and yielded grain; some produced thirty times as much, others sixty and others one hundred times as much.”

Most of you might be thinking, “Okay, I understand it. So what? What is so special? And, most importantly, how does it apply to our home business?” I do not blame you at all, as I felt the same way too. Nevertheless, this is how it adds up. Read carefully and understand.

I have divided this parable into 4 parts for easy understanding…

Part I: “some of the seeds fell along the path and the birds came and ate it up”

This means, regardless of the value or importance of your message/idea, some people will not pay heed to it. They will treat it with indifference. I would say that 80% of your general audience would fall in this zone. I do not blame them; I just believe that their time has not come yet. I believe that at that particular moment in time, their mind is not in alignment with yours. There is no need to get upset about their ignorance. Because if you do, then you are the one who is ignorant.

Inference: Your job as a home business owner (sower) is to market your product or opportunity (spread the seeds), and keep moving on. Do not worry about why people do not see what you see, even if it is plain obvious to you.

Part II: “Some of the seeds fell on rocky ground where it had little soil, it sprang up immediately because it had no depth; but when the sun rose and burned it, it withered because it had no roots”

This section is potent with valuable knowledge. If you read it carefully, you will see that the plant grows immediately (all height but no depth), but does not last for long because the roots did not have place to grow. What this means is, some people will listen to your message and choose to become your partner. They will please everybody with their activeness, eagerness and excitement (grows immediately), but after few weeks or months, they fade out.

This happens because success is an INSIDE-OUT game, and not the other way around. First, the roots should catch on, then and only then should the stem grow. The roots in this case refer to the mindset, attitude, self-development and/or self-mastery of the new partner. This will give him/her the necessary strength to deal with the challenges (the hot sun) that show up in the journey. That is why it is very important for a home business owner to ensure that the new partner focuses on developing himself by setting goals, reading books, attending trainings and learning from the leaders.

Inference: The moment somebody signs up to be your partner and joins your team, get him working on himself before the business.

Part III: “other seeds fell among thorn bushes and the thorns grew and choked it, so it did not produce any grain”

This means, some partners and team members who have the potential will start-off on the right foot, but they will eventually die off without producing results because they give in to the negativity and discouragement (growing thorns) dished out by their circle of influence.

This happens because he/she did not disassociate with the dream-stealers. It is obvious that the day will come when the negativity will win which in turn will kill the spirit of your partner. Here is what you do to correct the situation. First, talk to them about the business and opportunity and try to get them to see your vision. If they buy into it, great. However, if they do not, then do not try to convince them on how and where they are wrong, but instead gradually stop hanging around with them and distance yourself in due course of time.

Inference: If you want your team to produce the desired results, then ensure that they associate with successful persons and prevent them from associating with the dream-stealers

Part IV: “some seeds fell on good soil and grew and increased and yielded grain”

This is plain simple and does not need any explanation. These seeds refer to the people who have the right attitude and aptitude. These people are nurtured correctly and follow what is told of them. They are passionate, creative and enthusiastic. They persevere and are laser-focused on their goals. They are action-oriented and daring.

Inference: These are the people you want to collaborate with in your business. They will follow the system and are good students (good soil). These people will get you an early retirement and a fat bank balance. They will be the leaders of tomorrow and achieve great success.

In conclusion, your job as a home business owner in the network marketing industry is to nurture your team…encourage them, appreciate their efforts, celebrate in their successes, support them during challenges, guide them and most importantly, lead them.
