It’s interesting that even though I grew up with parents who were entrepreneurs, I didn’t even consider becoming one until I had already been in the workforce for almost 20 years.

All of my education only pointed me towards one thing and that was being an employee. How to get a job. How to impress an employer. How to work 9-5 for someone else.

Fortunately, I did eventually learn that the way to financial freedom, time freedom and ‘bring my laptop to Greece and work from there’ freedom, was to be an entrepreneur.

However, changing my mindset from that of an employee to an entrepreneur takes some adjustment. Here are a few tips to make the transition easier.

First, write down specific goals. When you know where you are going, you are much more likely to actually get there! Take the time every day to focus on your goals. Visualize yourself achieving them and how it will feel when you do. Trust me, this will definitely keep you motivated!

Secondly, set a work schedule and give yourself a specific time frame to get certain tasks done. For example, if you want to write 1 blog post a day, give yourself 30 minutes to get it done and don’t get distracted! Schedule in your phone, email, and social media time, such as Facebook and Twitter, and make sure you stick to it. Even though these are an important part of your Online Marketing business, they can be major distractors and time wasters.

Finally, take consistent and persistent action every day. One of the pitfalls of starting an online home business is the promises and stories of making thousands of dollars per month and having financial freedom and quitting your job. These are wonderful goals to have, but realize that achieving these goals isn’t going to come without slow, steady, good-old-fashioned hard work!

Remember this statement: “Nobody who bought a drill ever really wanted a drill. They wanted a hole. Therefore, if you want to sell drills, you should deliver information about making holes, not about drills!”

A prospect who ‘finds’ you first is more likely to buy from you than if you find him or her, because his or her perception of you is VERY different. You are looked upon as an expert and NOT as a slick and sneaky sales person.

For example, has your doctor EVER called you, just out of nowhere, and tried to sell you on a new drug or vitamin?

Absolutely not!

He doesn’t seek you out. Instead, you go to him or her. And when you do see the doctor, he tells you what you need to do to cure an ailment and you follow his word without question, right?

What if they advised you to lose weight, or else your life was at risk? Or that you need big time surgery? Or that you need to get professional help from a personal training, physical therapist, etc.

You get my drift.

You are more than likely to follow the doctors orders and pay good money for it in the process. The point is that you end up taking the advice, no matter how painful or inconvenient it is.

Now, ask yourself this question:

Do your customers respect you as much as they respect their doctor? Why is that? They don’t have a closer relationship with you than their doctor, do they?

Your doctor is educated in his field. Now don’t forget – YOU are educated in YOUR field as well. You have studied your industry, your products, your marketing. Your doctor has, too. So then why don’t your prospects see you the way they see their doctor?

I say that it’s ‘Positioning v. Prospecting’.

Positioning makes all the difference. You might seek out a doctor because they are seen as the expert in their particular practice. People follow experts, leaders, and people of knowledge. Frankly, you NEED to copy the way doctors position themselves and market their services.

You see, most people in the Home Business Industry and Internet Marketing space just imitate their competitors, and everyone just gets more and more stupid every year because no one is willing to take a stand and make things better and more productive.

It truly is SAD! That’s why I named this article what I did. And I am on a mission to change this sad fact. To be the most successful entrepreneur you can be, you HAVE to set yourself apart from the masses.

Get MLM Leads – Can You Really Get Targeted, MLM Leads For Free?

Looking to get MLM leads? Do you believe that quality, targeted leads have to cost money (or even a lot of money)? If so, then you need to read on because I am going to tell you why and how you can get quality, targeted leads for free.

Now before I go into how to get MLM leads for free, a few important points about getting MLM leads in general. First, I always recommend that everyone create an “octopus” type marketing system — meaning, that you have numerous “tentacles” or sources of leads. So while I am going to tell you a couple of ways to get quality, free leads here, I would suggest that in addition to those that you also incorporate other types of lead and traffic into your system.

There are two ways to get MLM leads that are free — but that are also of the utmost quality — that you should add into your marketing system if you aren’t already using them. These two sources of traffic are not the fastest way to get MLM leads, but you will be hard-pressed to find better leads than these.

1. Article Marketing: Article marketing is perhaps the best way in existence to get MLM leads — in terms of the quality of the leads you generate with it. There is no question that even though article marketing is 100% free, that you do have to trade time for dollars (it takes a little bit of elbow grease to do these). The way that you get MLM leads using article marketing is to put good and helpful content in them, and to keyword them effectively (putting the keyword in the title and as about 2% of your content). Then just post your great content on any of the major article sites, and you will start to see yourself get great MLM leads.

2. Video Marketing: Video marketing is great not only because you can create videos easily and for free, but also because it produces both good lead volume and good lead quality. Are you wondering how you can create good videos for free? You can do it for free because you can create your videos entirely on your computer — and without any “recording equipment.” All you need is a way to create slides and a way to turn the slides into a video. Try using the free video desktop recording software at CamStudio.org. To create the slides, you can get something like Google Docs (you can setup a free account at docs.Google.com) or Open Office Impress (you can set up a free account at OpenOffice.org).

Once you have yourself set up to create the videos, start recording! You will get MLM leads doing videos by creating short videos (no more than about 5 minutes) that you keyword in both the title and the description and which provides a link to a data capture page.

How well are you doing in today’s economy? Are you thriving? I hope so, and congratulations if you are! Obviously, many people are not. Unemployment is still high, and more people are staying unemployed for longer periods of time, especially the Boomer and near Boomer population. Underemployment, those working but at lower wage jobs, is a much discussed phenomenon and a seeming trend of the future for all age groups.

Older workers are especially hard hit as many of them have fewer working years to make up for the losses to their retirement and savings accounts, which have taken a beating from the poor economy of the past few years and the “tech burst” early this century. Many are changing their plans to work longer instead of retiring, as they had anticipated.

“Human capital”, a term economists use to define a person’s future earnings, takes on more importance as more Americans of all ages find their career choices impacted by fewer stable and long term opportunities in the corporate, governmental and non-profit fields. This affects our ability as wage earners to enjoy a long term, stable career with few disruptions. We must now plan for many changes along the way, and think more clearly about the impact this working environment has on our “financial capital”, our savings and investments.

We must now be more creative in our career aspirations and look outside of the traditional choices as they have become more unstable. (NOTE: this may be starting to sound like a disguised pitch for life insurance but it’s not!) Now, think about how volatile your career path is, are you a salaried worker in a large, stable company, a college professor or on a tenure track, or are you a stock broker, banker or sales person with the largest portion of your earning’s in a commission or bonus, or a laborer with limited job market choices? Historically, the more stable the career track, the more accurately you can predict your “human capital” number. Surprisingly, a professor will earn somewhat more over a career life span than a stock broker or sales person due to the more predictable nature of their career.

With the recent job market volatility and continuing poor economy, how predictable is your career track? Are you a professor, a sales person, a civil servant, a laborer? Can the market and economic history of your profession still show you a reasonably stable and rewarding “human capital” calculation that still appeals to you?

With the high probability of a long economic recovery and low levels of hiring by employers of all sizes for the foreseeable future, making a leap to your own small business or home business permits you to get a head start on others who will wait for improving economic conditions before their career circumstances change. And, depending on your market and business model, there may be a rich field of prospects for your business.

As an example, the Baby Boomer generation will double in the next 30 years (a Boomer is turning 50 every seven seconds!) and is now 35% of the population, has 77% of the financial assets and 57% of the discretionary income in America. And, while the recent poor economy has not been kind to older workers, overall, they still have significant “financial capital” and believe that they can make vital contributions as workers and entrepreneurs in addition to their massive purchasing power.

So, in summary, looking at your career in terms of it’s “human capital” potential and realizing that the job marketplace now and in the future will be more volatile as a result of recent fundamental economic changes, does starting your own business seem less risky and make more sense for you now? And, can you find or develop a business that takes advantage of the large and lucrative Baby Boomer marketplace either as prospective customers, workers or partners?
