So you will be the “YOU” in the bottom role play. And PROSPECT is a real estate agent from your local area named Jane. You found Jane’s number in front of a house on a for sale sign so you decided to call it.

*Ring Ring Ring!!!* (the phone starts to ring)

YOU: Hello – is Jane there please.

PROSPECT: Hi, this is Jane.

YOU: Hi Jane – I was just in the neighbourhood and noticed your advertisement

PROSPECT: Great! Did you want to take a look at the house?

YOU: Actually, it’s a really beautiful looking house, but that’s not what I’m calling about. I’m calling to ask you a really specific question. Just like you Jane I’m an entrepreneur myself, and I’m looking to expand the operations of my business in the area. Also, I really like working with sharp people and that’s why I’m calling you. So here’s my question….

Do you at all keep your options open when it comes to making extra money outside of what you normally do?

PROSPECT: Well sure I do.

YOU: Great! When is the soonest we can get together?

That’s all there is to it. Not much more here to do. You would simply set the meeting time and place to pitch your opportunity.

This might seem overly simple to you – and that’s because it is.

Now you have attracted prospects to your business, so what do you do with them? Do you really have to spend time coaching them? The answer may seem obvious, yet many networkers ignore this important part of building a business and get this wrong.

When I first got involved in network marketing, I had no experience at all and I was assured that I would receive ongoing training and coaching. Unfortunately, a few months down the road, I discovered that everything that I was taught was completely wrong – not a happy discovery! I quit! You cannot overstate enough the fact that in the business of network marketing your success is going to depend in a large part on the SYSTEM that you are plugging into. The next factor to consider is E for ENERGY. One man or woman is only one entity and no matter how much activity you can produce you are only one person. You might be able to sustain it for a while but eventually you are going to run down. You are not the Energizer Bunny! So, there are good reasons to consider the concepts of using your teams to not only extend your energy but teams actually generate energy and create a synergy of thoughts, ideas and results.

Lastly, is M for Money. It’s well known by now that there are two sides to the cash flow quadrant and we can either trade time for money or make money work for us. But, how we make the move to the right side of the quadrant and have money work for us is the big decision. You can pay millions to get a franchise or, as in network marketing, you can invest a small amount and find unbelievable returns. That’s the way your leverage your money and put it to work for you within the system.

So, as you can see the SYSTEM (Save Your Self Time Energy and Money) is the key to consider as you put everything into your business endeavors.

When you are established, you will still need to prospect- it is an ongoing process.

Another drawback is that it is true that you will be working from home, and so will be more available to your family. However, when you are at home, you have many more distractions than you do at work, and explaining to the children that you are here, but not able to play may be tricky. Balancing working from home with your family takes some really good negotiating skills and a good dose of motivation so that you can get back to prospecting when the rest of the distractions are gone. Better still, set goals and schedules, so that you have some motivation to succeed when you are able to work on your business.

A large drawback to network marketing is that for some people, it is the first time that they have worked for themselves and it can be difficult to motivate yourself when you are working alone.

Another drawback is procrastination. Actually getting into action. Picking up the phone, or organising a seminar. Many people find this challenging in the beginning and sometimes give up before they allow themselves to succeed.
These are some of the drawbacks to network marketing. The other one is that it is crucial to a successful business to generate leads to continue promoting your business. You do want to have a presence on the internet though, and Social Networking sites like Facebook and MySpace can connect you with your target audience without having to build your own site. Other than having your own website, the next best thing is having your own blog. On a blog you can share you knowledge and experience with your target audience.

Targeting Your Audience

A critical element when you’re marketing any type of product or service is to pinpoint your target audience. A target audience is simply a specific group (or groups) of people who are looking for, and want to buy, what you have to offer. For example, if you market health and wellness products, you’d want to find all the places on the internet where people interested in health and wellness would hang out.

Check out the health and fitness forums (just do a Google search for the topic you’re looking for), go to the places on the web where people exchange information on disease prevention and start answering questions. Places like Yahoo Answers are great for that.

Provide value for people without trying to sell anything. Become the expert they feel comfortable asking. After they know you and what you do, the business will naturally follow. This is attraction marketing at it’s finest.

Writing For Your Target Audience

Another fabulous, no-cost way of reaching people in your target market is writing articles. It’s a great way to establish yourself as an expert in your business. Create pages at Squidoo and Hubpages. Write articles and submit them to places like ezine articles.com, goarticles.com or articledashboard.com.

All of these different resources have a place where you can tell your audience about you and how to contact you. This is a happy thing. The more exposure you have, the more customers you’ll attract.

Starting a home based business and marketing your business using the internet are the perfect marriage of high-tech and high-touch. It will take some effort, but with patience and a little time your business will be thriving without breaking the bank.
